Big XII vs SEC Challenge Weekend

Texas teams went 4-1 over the weekend in the annual Big XII vs SEC Challenge with Texas 11-9, 3-4) being the lone loss against Georgia, 98-88. Texas’ loss was its fifth in six games

“We just haven’t gotten to the point where we are able to let go of the last (play),” Smart told Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman after a game in which Georgia shot 70.6 percent from 3-point range and 66.7 percent from the floor. The hot shooting from beyond is one thing, Georgia was hitting some well-contested 3’s, but the easy passes into the lane and point-blank looks are what ate away at Texas.

Texas Tech (16-4, 4-3), Baylor (13-6, 4-2) and TCU (15-4, 3-3,) all survived close games against their SEC counterparts, the Horned Frogs skated by a game against Florida in which they shot just 36 percent from the floor.

Texas A&M (8-10, 1-5) came away with a much-needed 65,53 win over Kansas State 15-5). Savion Flagg’s 11-point, 12-rebound double-double helped push the Aggies past the Wildcats and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Keaton Wallace and Jhivvan Jackson pull one out for UTSA

Wallace finished the game with nine 3’s and Jackson had his 14th 20-point total for the season.
