What Happened:

South Grand Prairie upsets No. 6 Duncanville, Self-Morgan resigns following recruiting allegations

As if Tuesday night’s marquee upset of South Grand Prairie’s 71-60 upset over Duncanville was enough to make headlines, legendary Pantherette head coach Cathy Self-Morgan then announced her resignation Wednesday amidst an investigation of player recruiting.

"I have been in Duncanville for 19 years, and some of those have been the highlight of my coaching career," Self-Morgan said in the statement to the Dallas Morning News. "I have loved my Pantherettes and our amazing fans, but after 42 years of coaching it's time for me to step away. That's why on February 4, I submitted my letter of retirement. I will always cherish the memories I have from this district and with my Pantherettes."

Self-Morgan will retire with eight state championships to her name, her last coming in 2017.

In the upset Tuesday night, Kendall McGruder led the Warriors with 17 points with Kiara Jackson pouring in 16 of her own.

South Grand Prairie takes on Lewisville Hebron Thursday night in Grapevine at 6:30 p.m.

Texas State and UTA locked in Sun Belt gauntlet race

If you’ve paid any attention to the Sun Belt this season you know the only thing guaranteed has been chaos. Both Texas State (19-5, 8-3) and UT Arlington (12-12, 8-3) are tied for the conference lead, but only two games separate them from Coastal Carolina in sixth place and they’re only a half-game up on third-place Georgia State, the preseason conference favorite.

The new formatting of the Sun Belt Tournament makes seeding even more pivotal this year with the top two seeds getting a bye to the semifinals while the third and fourth seeds get a bye to the second round and get to host their respective second-round games on home court before the conference transitions to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans for the semifinals and championship rounds. The Bobcats have a trip to Arkansas on the docket facing Arkansas State (10-14, 4-7) tonight at 7 p.m. and Little Rock (9-15, 4-7) on Saturday at 3 p.m. UTA has the same schedule, but flipped, Little Rock on Thursday and Arkansas State Saturday.

Rice WBB making case for Top 25

This week Rice earned six votes for the Top 25 and may have a case to crack the AP poll sooner than later with a 20-3 record and perfect 11-0 mark in Conference USA and a strong chance to finish out the year unbeaten in conference play. The Owls host FIU tonight at 7 p.m. and FAU Saturday at 2 p.m.
