Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte refused to comment on the future of men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart to the media following the Longhorns’ elimination in the Big XII Tournament quarterfinals.

Del Conte called it "ludicrous" to comment on Smart's future while Texas' season is still technically ongoing with Selection Sunday coming up,

According to Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News, the NCAA has selected an at-large team with a .500 for the tournament.

Texas finished the regular season at 16-16. The Longhorns have a very slim, but possible shot at the field, but a more likely opportunity at another post-season tournament this Sunday when the bracket is set.

Smart is 66-66 in his four years in Austin and is set to miss the tournament for the second time, having never made it past the first round. He has a $12.9m buyout for a fully guaranteed contract that goes until 2023.
