MBB Selection Sunday Roundup: Houston, Tech earn No. 2 seeds, Abilene Christian makes first NCAA Tournament

The big story from Selection Sunday from a statewide perspective was perhaps more about who got left out (TCU) as opposed to who got in to the field of 64.

We knew Abilene Christian would be getting in after winning the Southland Conference Tournament over New Orleans, but seeing the Wildcats’ name flash up as a No. 15 seed officially earning its first-ever NCAA bid ready to face No. 2 seeded Kentucky was still a moment worth seeing:

Houston will take on Georgia State its scoring star D’Marcus Simonds after a harsh shooting performance in the AAC Championship against Cincinnati.

Houston’s road to the Final Four potentially includes Big XII Tournament Champion Iowa State, No. 2 seed Kentucky, SEC Tournament Champion Auburn and No. 1 seed North Carolina in the top half of the bracket. Tech's path has Big 10 Tournament runner-up and No. 2 seed Michigan, potentially No. 8 Baylor who faces no. 9 Syracuse in the first round and No. 1 seed Gonzaga who beat out Big 10 Tournament Champ Michigan State for a one seed.

Prairie View A&M knocked off Texas Southern in the SWAC Championship to earn its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998. The Panthers play Fairleigh-Dickinson in the 16-seed play-in game. The winner will face No. 1 Gonzaga in the West Region.
