Baylor forward Lauren Cox diagnosed with sprained MCL, bone bruise

Baylor women's basketball forward Lauren Cox will not require surgery after suffering an apparent major knee injury in the national championship game on Sunday.

Cox was diagnosed with a sprained MCL and a bone bruise following evaluations by Dr. Brad Gilliam at Southwest Sports Medicine after the game. There is no timetable for a return at this point, but she should be ready to go well in advance of the 2019-20 season.

The junior from Flower Mound went down with a scary-looking injury in the second half of the national title game. The Lady Bears saw a 12-point lead dissipate to nothing, but managed to make just enough plays to pull off an 82-81 win for their third national championship. Cox was named to the All-Tournament Team for her standout defensive performance.
