Friday afternoon, the UIL officially canceled the remaining sports season for the 2019-20 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The announcement came hours after Texas governor Greg Abbott ordered that all state schools were to remain closed for the rest of the year. On March 12, the UIL announced that it was suspending the remainder of the boys basketball state championships. Those games along with the rest of the spring sports season are now officially canceled. This includes practices, rehearsals and school-sanctioned workouts as well.
