Report: Texas Tech to hire UTA head coach, former player Krista Gerlich as next WBB head coach

Texas Tech is bringing one of its own home.

First reported by The Ball Out, Texas Tech will hire UT-Arlington head coach and former national championship winning player Krista Gerlich as its next WBB head coach. The appointment comes following the firing of Marlene Stollings after allegations of player abuse and mistreatment.

Gerlich's tenure at UTA has been instrumental in rebuilding the Lady Mavs' program leading them to their first postseason appearances since 2009 and a Sun Belt regular season title in 2018-19. She was also named 2019 SBC Coach of the Year. She played under the legendary Marsha Sharp before eventually coaching under her mentor prior to her first head job at West Texas A&M.

As a player, Gerlich helped lead the Lady Raiders to a national championship in 1993 and is a member of the Texas Tech Hall of Fame.
