Texas Tech MBB head coach Mark Adams steps down

Texas Tech announced Wednesday night that men’s basketball head coach Mark Adams has resigned his post. The move comes during Adams’ suspension by the University following allegations of racist comments made to an unidentified Texas Tech player.

"My lifelong goal was to help and be a positive influence on my players, and to be a part of the Texas Tech men's basketball team," Adams said in a press release. "However, both the University and I believe this incident has become a distraction for the Texas Tech men's basketball team and the University, which I care about so deeply."

The resignation comes following Texas Tech’s elimination in the Big 12 Tournament to West Virginia, of which Adams did not coach.

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt determined following the investigation that Adams’ comments were unintentional and isolated. Adams has since apologized to the team according to the university.

According to a release earlier in the week, the comments by Adams were allegedly quoting scripture in which Adams referred motivate the Tech athlete referencing “workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters.”
