Report: UTA tabs former SMU and Texas assistant coach as next MBB head coach

UT-Arlington is set to name Kentucky assistant KT Turner as its next men’s basketball head coach, according to multiple reports. He's set to be the program's third head coach in four seasons.

KT Turner currently serves as Kentucky’s newest assistant coach after serving over 20 years in college coaching. Previously, Turner was an assistant at the University of Texas alongside Shaka Smart during the 2020-21 season. Before that, he was a part of both Larry Brown and Todd Jankovich’s staffs at SMU, including the season in which SMU ranked No. 8 in 2015-16. He’s credited with bringing the likes of Shake Milton and Tyson Jolly to the Hilltop.

Turner also coached on the bench of Wichita State’s 2012-13 Final Four team. Other stops in the Lone Star State include a brief stint as an assistant at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
