Unfinished business is an understatement for the Miners. The bad taste from the pandemic-shortened finish still hasn’t left their mouths. UTEP blends a group of young returners with a batch of transfers and international newcomers for 2020-21.
After a bit of a roster shakeup, the coaching staff believes that UTEP’s batch of newcomers will help build upon the foundation of their two leading scorers returning from last year in Bryson Williams and Souley Boum.
The major question for this young, talented squad is how will the coaching staff balance minutes among seven Divison I transfers and four skillful returning sophomores? Terry believes it will be a hard-fought battle for playing time. This could ultimately be a good problem for the coaching staff. Last year’s team lacked depth and injuries hurt the Miners in the end.
Despite losing leading scorer Zuzanna Puc, UTEP head coach Kevin Baker rolled with the challenges during the offseason by hiring a new trio of assistants and by capitalizing in the JUCO transfer recruiting ranks. The team now has a notable mix of returning players and newcomers.
